Cotton Industry Statistics


 

The original version of the following table was published in the Cotton Spinners & Manufacturers' Directory, 1891.

At the time, Lancashire was the world centre of cotton production.

I have extended the table to show the number of spindles per loom, which gives some indication of whether the main trade in a district was spinning or weaving.

I also added the percentage of the total spindles and looms in Lancashire, to show the relative importance of the places.
