Brakes
The front brakes were quite easy to deal with. After undoing six bolts, the drum could be removed. The drums were skimmed and the original shoes fitted with new linings.

The rear drums did not move easily. There are two threaded holes in each, intended for a hub puller. This modern equivalent has the centre bolt tightened with the aid of a 5-foot scaffold pole.
|
There is no space for extra leverage to be applied at the rim either. The torch was applied TEN times before the drum moved. There was no keyway involved, just an interference fit on a tapered shaft.
|
The rear shoes had virtually no lining left. In places metal was being worn. We believe that this is the very first time that the drums have been removed since the car left Daimler in 1927.
